Renée Vogen - Horn
Renée Vogen, a Chicago based freelance horn player and teacher, is a member of the Chicago Philharmonic and Third Horn with the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed many ensembles all over the Midwest including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony, and Elgin Symphony Orchestra.
Her wanderlust has taken her to China - where she taught alongside Yo-Yo Ma as a Teaching Fellow at Youth Music Culture Guangdong in Guangzhou in 2020 - Iceland – where she performed as a guest musician in 2018 with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra – Italy – where she toured with the Gil Evans Chamber Jazz Ensemble, a headlining group at the Umbria Jazz Festival in 2012 – and Germany, where she studied the German language as a DAAD Summer Exchange Fellow in 2012 at the Universität Potsdam.
Renée is the Instructor of Horn at Northern Illinois University, where she leads a thriving horn studio, intent on diversifying the horn’s repertoire, and fostering a kind and collaborative environment.
Renée was previously a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago where she was regularly coached by Daniel Gingrich, earned her Master’s degree in horn performance from DePaul University under the tutelage of James Smelser, and her Bachelor’s in horn performance and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music under the instruction of W. Peter Kurau.
